Workshop: LITERACY FLOATS ON A SEA OF TALK: PICTUREBOOKS AS AMAZING LANGUAGE LITERACY RESOURCES
In this multimedia presentation, Mary will demonstrate how picturebooks can benefit every teacher who wishes to develop Critical Thinking, Oral Language and Meaning Making in their classroom. Mary will explain how teachers can use these amazing language and literacy resources at whole class, small group and individual level, for developing a collaborative classroom culture in which meaningful social interaction can form the sea upon which readers and writers and thinkers can sail.
BIO
Mary Roche PhD: is the author of Developing Children’s Critical Thinking through Picturebooks (Routledge 2015) which received a United Kingdom Literacy Association Academic Book Award. Her ‘Critical Thinking and Book Talk’ (CT & BT) approach has been adopted by the National Council Curriculum Assessment (NCCA). It is currently part of Literacy support materials for the revised language curriculum in Ireland and is a prescribed text in several Initial Teacher Education colleges internationally.
