Colour of my Dreams: Supporting Children’s holistic Well-being Conference
In collaboration with various partners with an interest in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), including Donegal Children’s Services Committee, DCCC hosted the Colour of my Dreams: Supporting Children’s holistic Well-being conference on thursday 28th may 2009.
Why choose this particular conference theme?
The national Children’s Strategy puts forward a vision for children living in ireland and the development of a national set of child well-being indicators was identified as a key action under the national Children’s Strategy (2000). the DCCC conference programme was framed around the 3 goals of the national Children’s Strategy:
- children will have a voice
- children’s lives will be better understood
- children will receive quality supports and services.
When planning the event in late 2008, DCCC decided that a cross-cutting theme such as children’s holistic well-being would not only encapsulate the key principles of the national Children’s Strategy, it would also be of interest to individuals, services and agencies pertaining to young children and families. this decision appears to be a positive one as conference evaluation forms demonstrated that 96% of delegates thought that the conference theme was excellent.
Held in the beautiful an grianán hotel, situated in Burt, inis Eoghain; a short distance away from both Letterkenny and Derry, over three hundred delegates were welcomed to the fully booked event to combine their efforts in a bid to enhance the welfare of children. A great cross-border networking opportunity, the conference provided a platform for childcare organisations on both sides of the border to meet, share ideas and develop relationships in a collaborative environment. The delegates where excited to hear from a number of high profile childcare and education experts who travelled from ireland, the uk and the united States to reflect upon the major issues in early childhood care and education today.
